The program has prepared me for a career on Global Public Health research with a wide range of disciplines in Health and Social Sciences and more quantitative ones such as Statistics, Epidemiology or Econometrics. Multiculturalism is also at the core of the program with students coming from many different countries and backgrounds. I have gained from them not only new international friendships but also new perspectives and experiences to look at global health issues. The fact that the program runs in different Universities have let me choose within a broad range of topics to develop my research under complete freedom and with the support of senior researchers. The scholarship for four years is allowing me to focus solely on my research without worrying about financial issues. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Portugal is a very welcoming country where I have felt at home from the beginning.

Not only has this PhD program given me strong competences in various fields in Global Health, it has also given me the unique opportunity to meet, to collaborate and to work closely with other students from all over the world with very different backgrounds. In the field of Global Health, multidisciplinary is the key factor for any successful intervention, and that is why I find this PhD program the best opportunity for future Global Health workers. The program provided me with the extensive knowledge from four Schools in Public Health in Portugal and the variety of the optional courses allowed me to adapt my training plan according to my preferences and future research needs. The commitment of the entire faculty was determinant in my preparation, enthusiasm and motivation to pursue my research and follow my career.

A transdisciplinar approach is key for a successful global-public health intervention. By letting me fully design my own project, this program has given me the opportunity to apply an integrated approach to my PhD research, together with the necessary training and support. Furthermore, all the candidates came from multiple backgrounds and nationalities, which served us as a real-life simulation of multidisciplinary team work, similar to the environment we will find in our future Global Health careers.
